"Sameness is identity, and seldom is anything ever the same as anything else. There can only be a relationship when there is difference, and welcoming difference is what life and painting deal with. In this sense I see a painting-like a marriage or a friendship-as a particular relationship that points to the necessity of variation and difference among all creatures and forms in our world."

William T. Oughton

Taylor Oughton was an award winning painter and illustrator. He became an illustrator by trade but built his reputation on commissions. Oughton's subject matter varied, but nature and wildlife were his primary interests. For more than forty years, he illustrated magazines and books. His work has been featured in publications including Reader's Digest, Field and Stream, Holiday, Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, Cosmopolitan, and the Saturday Evening Post. Oughton has also designed at the Franklin Mint and for the Lenox Collectibles. His illustrations of nature can be found in the Boy Scout handbook.

Oughton began to create portraits of officers while serving in World War II. After the war, while still in the Marines, Oughton realized he could make art a career. Since then, he has won prestigious awards from the Philadelphia and New Jersey Art Directors Clubs, the Delaware Valley Artists Guild, and the New York Society of Illustrators.
