Summary

Sheldon Strober. Image courtesy of the artist.

Artist Sheldon Strober was born on a farm near Stockton, New Jersey in 1941. His current works are based on his environment and experience with it. The imagery is abstracted to advance certain structural and emotional elements that evoke personal perceptions with the viewer. Each work is unique in expression and style as it communicates the essence of the imagery. Most works are drawn from attraction to the hills, forests, waterways, and historical architectural structures that appear in Bucks County and the adjacent Delaware Valley.

Sheldon Strober, an outlier in major respects, has learned from many whose works fill contemporary American museums. He studied those who work from memory and imagination, expressed in a manner as to evoke what is assumed beyond the visible. Strober's formal education includes, a B.S.A. Ed. from Kutztown University, an M.A. in ceramics and printmaking from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and an M. Ed and Ed.DCTA in Art and Art Education from Columbia University. He served as an artist/teacher in the Hunterdon County public school system for thirty years, where he innovated several art based curricula as head teacher. While maintaining studios and refurbishing period homes in Hunterdon and Bucks, he exhibited widely, and was a coadjutant at the the College of New Jersey. Strober has amassed a myriad of honors and awards in both art and art education, is in several prestigious private and personal collections, and is a Geraldine R. Dodge Fellow.
