"Just as symbols read on sheet music are understood as surrogates for the making of sound, we see here new shapes and organization of color, that one may appreciate as sound, including that of the human voice. As a singer classically trained, I sense there the ebb and flow of my own song."
-Robert Ranieri
In his acrylic paintings, Robert Ranieri suggests both the density of architecture and open areas, which are at times flooded with warm or cool light. From his training as a classical singer, he imparts to his canvases shapes and organization of color that intentionally mimic sound, especially that of the human voice.
Robert Ranieri was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After receiving his B.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art, he spent two years as a Fulbright Scholar in Rome where he studied sculpture, painting, architecture, and art history, as well as opera and oratorio performance.
