Teachers and Influences
Teachers: Isabelle Stewart at the Newark Arts High School, Leopold Matzal at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, L. Lent at the Tyler School of Art, and C. Koppelman at the School of Visual Arts. Klapholz studied with Georg Grosz for three months in1949, and later studied drawing with Eugene Karlin in his studio in New York.
Influences: Paul Cezanne, Vincent van Gogh, Giogio Morandi, Goya, Diego Velasquez, Willem de Kooning, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Rembrandt, El Greco, Edouard Manet, Sigmund Freud, and Francis Bacon.
Connection to Bucks County
Klapholz lived in Point Pleasant, Bucks County, from 1962 to 1964 and in Solebury, Bucks County, from 1966 to 1971.
