James Green was born in Philadelphia in 1956 and grew up in the rural Warminster section of Bucks County. His youth was surrounded by abandoned barns, old farmhouses, and open fields which influenced the subject material of his later art. Jim, always interested in drawing, took a chance at an art contest in high school and won a partial scholarship to Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, where he met his future wife, artist Betz Green. Working his way through school in the construction industry to pay the bills, Jim eventually sidetracked into a 30-year odyssey owning and operating his own construction company. However, never losing his love for painting, Jim built his own art studio where he could focus on developing his painting style in the Bucks County tradition. Jim was greatly influenced by the colorful palettes of the New Hope and French impressionists, and later in life by the expressionist style of the Viennese Secessionists. Jim’s career is reflected in the numerous awards, exhibitions, and his teaching history. Along with his wife, Betz, Jim is a featured artist and guest speaker at the historic Phillips' Mill.
