Harold Kalmus

I set myself a problem, ask a question, propose an issue, etc., then attempt to solve that problem, answer that question, comment on that issue through my sculpture. I employ the figure and the language of anatomy; some of my work being of a personal nature while other projects emerge from a broader world view. I believe in and strive for multi-layered art and work to achieve an amalgam of story, acknowledgement of history, craftsmanship, and composition.

Contemporary influences include sculptor Walter Erlebacher and his wife Martha Mayer Erlebacher. Historical influences include sculptors of the early Italian Renaissance, including Verrocchio, Donatello, and Ghiberti.
