Christopher Kennedy

Kennedy started life as a photographer at age 9. He worked in the record industry in London, then quickly moved into post production feature film, sound effects and music editing. In the 1980's he moved to Los Angeles to continue his film work and quickly gained traction working with top composers. In 2004, Kennedy returned to Bucks County, a place he had visited in 1973, and bought a house in Buckingham. He continued working in film until 2010, finishing up the Oscar winning score for Finding Neverland with composer Jan AP Kaczmarek, the Cole Porter musical biopic De-Lovely and the dark thriller Unfaithful.

In 2011 he moved to a farm near Plumsteadville, where he began writing more music and returning to photography. He began to research alternative methods of capturing preconceived electric lightscapes, a technique that would eventually become known as Photo Luminism. Those works became popular with international hotels.

In 2016 Kennedy was encouraged by a local patron of the arts to participate in the New Hope Outdoor Sculpture Contest. Initially dismissing the idea, the artist soon found the challenge appealing and found several Photo Luminism images that would lend themselves well to the 3-dimensional world. He recieved 4th place in the popular vote.

In the Autumn of 2019, Kennedy and his artistic partner completed the massive undertaking and the huge 3-piece internally illuminated translucent 'Exhibitionist' was installed along N. Main St., in full view of everyone driving by. The sculpture, containing almost 2000 animated LEDs, is illuminated between dusk and 11pm daily.

Influences on the artist include Salvador Dali, Man Ray, Jerry Uelsmann, Danny Elfman, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and more.

Colleagues include Stephen Perloff, photographer and founder of The Photo Review, Henry Rowan, photographer and founder of the Pennsylvania Center for Photography, Tamara Cannon, owner of Gallery Piquel of New Hope and Lambertville, Stephanie Lisle, art curator, and Santa Bannon Shillea, co-owner of the Santa Bannon Gallery.

Bucks County Connection
Kennedy visited New Hope and Philip's Mill in 1973 while visiting his cousin in New York. Always wanting to return, Kennedy revisited Bucks County in 2004 when searching for an East coast home. He initially moved to Buckingham, living in Plumsteadville and again in Buckingham before eventually moving to Virginia.
