Summary

Carol Barany, photo by Bruce Lazaravich, the Nancy Hellebrand Project, Bucks County Community College, 1976. James A. Michener Art Museum archives.

Carol Barany has two loves: painting and traveling. Painting from life is what she enjoys, using a representational style that is strong in composition and long in tradition. Since her scenes are painted on location, she works from an inconspicuous location to avoid distractions. Barany is inspired by the great masters, especially the French impressionists. She paints all subjects, but the Bucks County landscape greatly influences her work. She uses all mediums including oils, watercolors, acrylics, and even woodcuts. Recently, she has been working primarily in oil. Barany has traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States, capturing many of these places in her work. She received her education and training from Nelson Shanks, William A. Smith, William Zeigler, and Daniel Greene. Barany has won numerous awards and has exhibited extensively in the Bucks County area, including the Doylestown Art League and the annual art exhibitions at Phillips' Mill. She has also exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Woodmere Art Museum.
