"I seek to create a state of quiet excitement, serenity, and calm; a place of beginning for all possibilities."
-Anna Bogatin

Born in the Ukraine, Anna Bogatin grew up studying painting in the former Soviet Union before emigrating to the United States in 1992. She recieved her BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2002 and her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2006. Considering herself as much of a philosopher as a painter, Bogatin takes much of her inspiration from Buddhism, likening her creation of art to meditation. She typically uses oils or acrylics to create series of dots and lines which form a "community" with one another, her goal being to achieve a sense of balance and harmony among each pictorial element. She is also highly influenced by Australian Aboriginal art, as exemplified in her Wanderings series. In it, she strives to create the illusion of movement, which she sees as representative of life itself, in imitation of the Aboriginal ritual of "walkabout" in which a young man must wander the forest on a spiritual journey, tracing the "songlines" of his ancestors. Her work has been exhibited in such disparate places as New York, Los Angeles, and Russia, and is represented by Larry Becker Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. Additionally, she teaches painting and drawing in the University of the Arts' Continuing Education program and at the Cathedral Village in Philadelphia. She currently resides in Doylestown, PA.
